Ever year I make a new years resolution to loose weight or to be more active or to save money. Never have I ever accomplished any of those successfully. So Ive been trying to come up with something different Here is what I have come up with. For 2013 Id like to be more “green” . I would like to grow vegetables in my garden in our new yard.
I would like to do more canning and preserving. We have alot of fruit trees in our yard so I would like to learn to make jams, wines, and can fruit. I would like to tear down the old chicken coop and make a compost for the garden for all our food waste. Id like to make more things by hand. Learn to knit , sew , make things like scarves, socks, slippers, and blankets. I would like to be more creative and crafty , to make my own lotions candles and creams.
Id like to eat more organic and make alot of my own food. This should not be to hard since I dont eat meat. I already cook and bake alot of my low protein foods but normally its hard to stay consistent and bake them regularly. Then When I run out its hard to get back on track. Idealy Id like to set one day a week a side for baking. Then freeze it for the week.
I also want to recycle more. This is something I just dont do enough of. Cole is constantly re minding me how milk cartons, cans and things like that dont need to go in the garbage.
I try hard to support local stores and when I buy my produce I like to go to nature fare or new leaf as there produce is local. Thats when I dont get any from tracy or my own garden. Hopefully this year I can learn to store food and preserve it for year round. I have been learning alot from coles mom tracy. Specially when she showed me how to make beats and freeze or can them for winter. We also made all that salsa and spaghetti sauce in the summer. Id like to continue to do that and make my own soups and freeze them.
I have a good spice garden already started so I also want to learn to cook more with the fresh spices. I dont experiment with spice to much. I tend to stick with what I know . or salt. I use way to much salt and on everything!!
I would like to learn how to make my own juice , i started getting interested in this with all the smoothies I made last year. Also my dad and Rae-Anne have juicers and they love them.
I want to make my own applesauce and apple butter. I eat applesauce every single day since I was a kid. Always the same kind. The snack packs, motts or western family and always the sweetned kind. I go though so many packs a week. I always buy a few when we go grocery shopping so I never run out. If I started making my own I would save money. However Id like to get an apple tree and start it in my sun room , that way I am not buying alot of apples every week. Otherwise it would still be cheeper to buy my applesauce , though proboly not as healthy.
Well this is all I can think of for now, and reading back on it , it is quiet the list. I hope to achieve some of these and will try to work on them as best as I can . After all your best is all any one can expect.
Each day is a new day and a fresh begining. A chance to start again. So to work towards my goals for 2013 I will keep that in mind and take it one day at a time.

Thanks for the support I will be sure to keep everyone updated. So far have not had much progress. Winter always seems to make me move slow.
